Carer Mums in Business [Elevenses]
This unique
peer support network specifically for women juggling starting & growing a
business around caring for a loved one, will be facilitated by Claire O'Hanlon,
Founder of Carer Mums in Business & Director of Carers at Work.
When Claire
asked members of her Carer Mums in Business community, what practical supports
would best help them to create a business that enabled them to earn a good
income around caring for their children with additional needs, they said: 'a
supportive community who can come together casually to talk about the highs and
lows and to be supported by people who 'get it' (the challenge of the juggle)'.
That's why
Carers at Work created a new monthly networking event - an opportunity for
women juggling caring for someone with running their own business to connect
and learn from each other. The sessions, named Elevenses, take place online,
late morning on a school day, giving more women the chance to attend.
Carers often
struggle to see how they can marry traditional business advice with the levels
of uncertainty and the need for flexibility in their caring roles. Traditional
advice tends to ignore personal circumstances, pushing an 'always available'
strategy that simply doesn't work for carers. But that doesn't mean that carers
can't run successful businesses that provide financially for their families.
These
sessions will connect ambitious women who also happen to care for someone, with
like-minded women forging a business path that works for them.
The sessions
will be informal with a unique blend of business and personal supports, and
we're delighted to partner with Go Succeed so that we can support a greater
number of women in Northern Ireland who are balancing the need to earn an
income with caring for someone.
About the
Facilitator:
Claire
O'Hanlon MBE, is an experienced business mentor and certified NLP coach with
almost 20 years' experience supporting small businesses to start up and grow.
She is also a mother or 2 children with additional needs which include physical
disability, SEN & neurodivergent conditions. Claire started her own
business consulting and training business at the end of 2019 when her support
system fell apart, and earlier this year, started Carers at Work, after feeling
frustrated with the lack of supports for ambitious carers. Carer Mums in
Business is a sub brand of Carers at Work and supports women to continue to use
their skills and retain their financial independence around caring for a loved
one by helping them to start & grow their own business that fits around
their life.
