ABOUT THIS EVENT

Join us for the third session of UNDERSTAND, EastSide Arts' compassionate facilitation programme.

UNDERSTAND aims to better equip professional artists with awareness, knowledge and practical tips in order to confidently and compassionately work with a wide variety of participants in their creative facilitation practice. 

What will we cover during this training session?

Understanding intersectionality, privilege and power dynamics

Autistic-led theories, autistic experience and trauma

Experience sensitive approach - the 8 Dimensions of Wellbeing

Multi-modal languaging 

This training is useful for professional creative facilitators who work with children and young people in community, educational and commercial settings, and will include group discussion, Q&As and practical tips.

A bit about your facilitator, Elaine McGreevy

Elaine is a neurodivergent-affirming speech and language therapist who has worked with Autistic children and young people for over 25 years. She is the founder of Access Communication Ltd where she provides speech and language therapy services for Autistic children and young people. She advocates for non-behavioural based therapy supports which honour autistic communication so that Autistic children and young people are empowered to be their most authentic self. Elaine is the co-founder of Divergent Perspectives, providing training in neurodivergent-affirming approaches for health and education professionals. She is a Trainer/Facilitator with the NHS England National Autism Trainer Programme.

Event Information

The event is free to attend but it is a requirement to book tickets in advance

The session will last 2.5 hours and finish at 12.30pm

Tea, coffee and water will be provided 

Breakout spaces will be available and attendees are welcome to take short breaks as and when they need

Venue information

Walkway Community Centre, 1 - 9 Finvoy Street, Belfast, BT5 5DH 

The venue has a lift, accessible toilet, baby changing facilities and a kitchen 

No parking is available on Finvoy Street unless you are a blue badge holder 

Free parking is available in the car park on Ravenscroft Avenue
